A Day In The Life of a Marketing Summer Intern

Hey everyone! My name is Anna Kate Moeller and I am a Senior at Mississippi State University. I am majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Integrated Digital Marketing. This summer I have had the opportunity to work under the Managing Partner, Lauren Schafer at Lake House Digital. We have worked on projects using SEO, geotargeting, social media, graphics, and marketing analytics. 

Mornings as a Summer Marketing Intern

The sun rises and I start the day with a cup of coffee and catch up on emails and look into my to-dos for the week! Each week I work on complete campaigns. Starting with research and finishing the week with a blog, graphics and hashtags ready to go. 


Every successful project, regardless of its nature, begins with a solid foundation of research and information compilation. As a marketing summer intern, I have come to understand the crucial role that research plays in crafting effective marketing campaigns. Each week, my journey starts with an exciting exploration of the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) through keyword research, setting the stage for the week’s topic. 

SEMrush, a powerful SEO tool, has become my trusted companion throughout my internship journey. This tool has been instrumental in helping me compile and analyze information effectively. Its user-friendly interface and in-depth analytics have empowered me to make data-driven decisions, steering our marketing efforts in the right direction.

With a treasure trove of carefully selected keywords at my disposal, the next phase begins – outlining the blog. This is where creativity intertwines with strategy, shaping the content in a way that resonates with our target audience. Crafting an outline lays the groundwork for a compelling and engaging blog.


Once I finish up research and outline, I hop on my daily call with Lauren. This call serves as a check-in to discuss short-term and long-term goals. This strategic planning session allows us to align our efforts with the broader vision of the company.

One of the most valuable aspects of these daily calls is the opportunity to receive constructive feedback. Lauren is not just an expert in marketing but also a mentor who invests in my personal and professional growth. Her insightful critiques and suggestions have been instrumental in refining my skills and molding me into a better marketing summer intern and a more proficient marketer. 

Afternoons as a Summer Marketing Intern

After a quick lunch, I hop back into my marketing mindset. As the day progresses, one of my favorite parts of marketing begins – the magical realm of creativity. This is where the true artistry of marketing comes to life.


With various platforms at my disposal, I embark on the journey of visual storytelling. It is a pivotal role in showcasing our company and sharing valuable content with our audience.

In the realm of marketing, data holds incredible significance. However, raw data can be overwhelming to our audience. Here, the magic of data visualization comes into play. Transforming dry statistics into visually appealing infographics and charts enables us to present complex information in an easily digestible and engaging format.

Social Media Research

After I finish up some graphics, it’s time to plan out the way we want to execute this post being shared! By doing so, I research hashtags and engagement on social media platforms, to ensure our post succeeds. 

Hashtags serve as digital signposts, leading our content to a vast audience of potential followers and customers. As a marketing intern, I engage in comprehensive hashtag research to discover the trending keywords that resonate with our target audience. These strategic hashtags pave the way for increased visibility and reach on social media platforms.
